Poor Scooter

I often wonder how Dick Cheney can sleep at night, knowing that he is evil incarnate. But now that he has thrown Scooter Libby under the bus, I hope he wakes up at 3:13 every morning for the rest of his life. Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, was convicted on Tuesday of lying to a grand jury and to F.B.I. agents investigating the leak of the identity of C.I.A. operative Valerie Plame in the summer of 2003 amid a fierce public dispute over the war in Iraq. Dick Cheney has denied knowing anything about this scheme, which I find extremely unlikely. I met Joseph Wilson (Valerie Plame's husband) during the Kerry campaign in 2004, when he came here to speak as a surrogate on behalf of Kerry. Wilson is the guy who disputed the claim by the Bush Whitehouse Iraq had tried to acquire uranium in Africa to bolster the case for going to war. Turns out he was right. There was no evidence of it. Testimony at the trial showed that Wilson’s criticisms had alarmed and angered Bush administration officials because they amounted to a direct attack on what had been the principal reason for invading Iraq: the claim that Saddam Hussein had an active program of developing unconventional weapons. So these cowards released the name of Wilson's wife to the press, which was a federal crime. When I think about the crooked people who are running our country, it makes me cringe.
