The Apalling Mistreatment of Our Wounded Warriors

I had some inkling before this big story about Walter Reed Army Hospital came out that our soldiers were not getting the care they deserved. I'd heard random stories on TV and on NPR that many more soliders are surviving the war, not dying on the battlefield. Many are suffering from traumatic brain injuries that render the soldiers unable to sufficiently plan their own care. So when I heard the actual details about how soldiers were unable to complete the mountains of paperwork required to obtain outpatient treatment, I was not completely surprised. When I heard that soldiers were living in substandard conditions, it did not come as a shock. Actually, I think our country is becoming numb. I am numb to the lack of common sense and disregard for doing the right thing that seems so pervasive in the Bush Administration. I believe that when most people, when confronted with the simple choice of doing the right thing or doing the wrong thing, will chose the right thing. Unless they are being told not to do the right thing, or forced not to do the right thing. I am totally against the war in Iraq, morally, philosophically, financially...all of the above. But it is a sin to warehouse our brave young men and women in subhuman conditions and throw them away like pieces of trash. Reminds me of the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Bush is such a reckless and dangerous president. I don't trust him to do anything in my best interest. As they say in Ambar province...Embrace the Suck. I guess that's all we can do for now.
